Aston Villa may need to sell players this summer after missing out on Champions League qualification, with Arsenal among the clubs keeping tabs on star man Morgan Rogers

Morgan Rogers is not one of the Aston Villa stars up for sale, it has been claimed. The England international is interesting Arsenal, who also failed with a bid for his team-mate Ollie Watkins in January.

Mikel Arteta is expected to add attacking reinforcements over the summer after another runner-up finish in the Premier League. A central striker is the main priority, but the Gunners aren’t ruling out another wide forward.

Nico Williams has been on their radar for some time, but Barcelona appear to be leading the race for the Spanish international. Real Madrid star Rodrygo is another name mentioned in connection with the club, as is Rogers, but a deal for the latter looks difficult.

According to The Mail, Villa are expected to make sales before the end of June to ensure they comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules. However, Rogers is not one of those being made available for transfer.

Leon Bailey is among those more likely to leave, amid interest from the Saudi Pro League, while Villa are said to be ready to listen to offers for Jacob Ramsey. England Under-21 international Ramsey, who missed part of last season through injury, is reportedly available for around £40million.

Left-back Lucas Digne has just one year left on his Villa deal, and Atletico Madrid are understood to be keen to bring the Frenchman back to La Liga. Digne, who turns 32 in July, spent two years at Barcelona before moving to the Premier League – initially with Everton – in 2018.

Villa brought in more than £100m in transfer fees last summer, as well as adding new signings including Ian Maatsen and Ross Barkley. Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby fetched the biggest sums, joining Juventus and Al Ittihad respectively.

One man whose departure looks more likely is Emi Martinez. The goalkeeper was visibly emotional on the final weekend of the season, and has been cagey on his future amid interest from Manchester United and unnamed Saudi clubs.

“My future? I don’t know,” Martinez told reporters when reporting for Argentina duty during the June international break, “I come here to play for the national team, and that’s the only thing that matters to me right now.

“Do I want to move to a new club? The transfer window just opened, so there’s still a long way to go.”
