Arsenal are still being linked with three different strikers but RB Leipzig appear to be closing in on a new striker who appears to be a replacement for Benjamin Sesko

Another day of striker talk as Arsenal’s current stars enjoy some down time before pre-season appears on the horizon.

And if you were to believe in every report doing the rounds over the past 24 hours then Mikel Arteta will solve his centre forward problem by bringing in all of Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Ollie Watkins.

The reality is different – though a stand off does appear to have developed regarding Sweden star Gyokeres as Sporting Lisbon hold out for a huge sum for their main man. That has prompted fresh speculation of a move for Aston Villa star Watkins, who was linked closely back in January.

Here are the transfer tales to keep tabs on from the Gunners.

Sesko progress

A deal for RB Leipzig’s Sesko could be moving a step closer after reports that the Bundesliga club are in talks with bringing in striker Romulo from Turkish side Goztepe.

Leipzig will only allow their star man to depart once a replacement is lined up. and deal for Sesko is expected to cost the Gunners approximately £65m.

Gyokeres stand-off

The situation surrounding Gyokeres remains uncertain however with Sporting reiterating their stance that any offers around the £60m discussed by his representatives will be quickly dismissed.

Sporting continue to insist that no offer has been received and the tension between the club’s hierarchy and top goalscorer is now expected to result in a drawn out saga … unless a club comes in and offers big bucks off the bat.

And that pause means talk of a pivot towards Watkins, who is Premier League proven but will turn 30 midway through next season, continues to ramp up.

Arsenal made their interest in him clear back in January but they were not offering enough money to interest the Midlands side.

Lewis-Skelly update

Arsenal have been described as “very calm” around talk of breakthrough star Myles Lewis-Skelly being hoovered up by Real Madrid with 12 months left on the academy graduate’s contract.

As ever with Real, transfer talk comes with a grain of salt and the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga is no doubt fueling talk of another English full back nearing the end of his contract heading to the Spanish capital.
