Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the third deal between the two clubs this summer – with Jarrell Quansah set to join the German side.
The Reds have signed Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from the Bundesliga club already. And now England Under-21 international is set to join Bayer when his participation at the U21 European Championships comes to an end. Quansah is part of the Young Lions side who have reached the quarter-finals in Slovakia, where they will meet Holland on Wednesday.
Bayer, under new boss Erik ten Hag, have been prioritising a move for a new centre-back after losing long-time lynchpin Jonathan Tah. He joined rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer.
Now they are banking on Quansah as the man to fill that void, and have agreed terms with the Reds on a £35million deal. The Reds will bank an initial £30m, with a further £5m in add-ons. Quansah has agreed a deal until 2030.
Intriguingly, Liverpool aren’t shutting the door on the centre-back making a return to Anfield, after insisting on a buy back clause in the move. Kop chiefs believe Quansah could still have a future on Merseyside, but that he needs to go and be playing regular football to fulfil his potential.

Quansah made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, but only made five starts in the Premier League. One of those came on the opening day at Ipswich, and saw him hooked at half-time.
With Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk remaining in situ as first choice, and the club looking for another centre-back to challenge Konate – whose long-term future remains in question, with his contract up next summer – it was decided a further reduction in playing time would do little but harm Quansah’s development.
And despite having only signed a long-term deal until 2029 with Liverpool in October, an agreement has been reached which sees him head to Germany.
Marc Guehi has emerged as a potential solution for the Reds, with the Crystal Palace captain set to leave Selhurst Park this summer. The £30m banked for Quansah will go some way to paying for the England international, who is understood to be very keen on a move to Anfield. Palace are in talks with Sporting Lisbon to land Ousmane Diomande as his replacement.
The move also represents a record fee for Leverkusen, surpassing the £27m they paid Hoffenheim to land Kerem Demirbay in 2019.
