Liverpool have added Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to the list of potential lucrative signings ahead of next season but they could face competition from Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle

Marc Guehi is set to make a decision on his future based on the amount of game time he will receive amid a four-team race for his signature. The Crystal Palace captain’s future is up in the air with just a year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Premier League champions Liverpool have added Guehi to their shortlist of summer signings. They see the former Chelsea man as an ideal addition to their defensive ranks with Jarell Quansah set to complete a move to German giants Bayer Leverkusen.

But the Reds could face competition for Guehi’s services. North London duo Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with an interest in the England man in the past, while Newcastle are long-term admirers having had multiple bids for his services rejected for his services last summer.

Amid the competition for his signature, it has now been revealed what Guehi will take into account as he attempts to pick his next club. According to football.london, Guehi is expected to make his decision on the amount of game time that he will receive with his new employers.

As it stands, each of the interested clubs have settled central defensive partnerships. Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, albeit the latter’s future is also in doubt with a year remaining on his deal.

Arsenal currently boast Gabriel and William Saliba, while Spurs have Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Guehi could have better chances to play at Newcastle but it remains to be seen whether the Magpies return to the negotiating table.

Meanwhile, Guehi gave a telling clue about any interest in his services. Speaking last year, he said: “I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club,” the defender said about his future last year. “I come in every day and I try to be the same.

“I try to work hard. And you know, this football club has given me a lot. I’m still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club. So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds.”

Palace chairman Steve Parish also gave a clue on what it would take for the Eagles to sell – a considerable bid. He said: “Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money.

“It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He’s a generational talent.”
