Arsenal believe they are closing in on a deal for Christian Norgaard after submitting a fresh offer for the Brentford midfielder as they face the prospect of more departures

Arsenal are now said to be close to agreeing a deal with Brentford for midfielder Christian Norgaard with confidence growing that the switch across London will take place.

The Gunners had made a bid for £9.3million to land the Dane, who has been an integral figure at the Bees since joining them in 2019 from Fiorentina. Mirror Football revealed last week that the midfielder was an Arsenal target.

Norgaard has two years left on his deal but Arsenal believe they will secure the move despite there being no agreement in place as of yet, reports the Athletic. The 31-year-old has played 196 times for Brentford throughout his time at the club.

He has also played more than 20 times for his country. Norgaard played for Thomas Frank when the pair were at Brondby, but the midfielder will not follow his manager for a third time after he left Brentford to become the new Tottenham manager.

Arsenal could be in the market for midfielders as it looks increasingly like Thomas Partey will leave the Emirates at the end of June. They have not come to an agreement with his representatives and, as things stand, he will leave on a free.

That would make Partey the second midfielder to leave north London this summer with Jorginho also heading off to pastures new. He previously played at Chelsea but swapped blue for red and has been a valuable squad player under Mikel Arteta.

The Spanish coach will hope to finally kick off his summer business in the coming days as Martin Zubimendi’s switch is expected to be finalised. The Real Sociedad star was on their radar last summer and a deal worth over £50million is now close.

Arsenal are also continuing their pursuit of a new striker, which is their priority this summer. Benjamin Sesko has become their priority target but his wage demands are proving challenging, which could hamper the deal with RB Leipzig. Viktor Gyokeres is another option they could pursue.

Brentford meanwhile, whilst potentially losing Norgaard, are hoping to achieve a huge profit with Bryan Mbeumo’s exit. The forward moved to London when they were a second tier outfit and just enjoyed a 20-goal year in the top flight. Manchester United have had several offers rejected at the club look to receive more than £60m.
