Manchester United are braced for a busy summr in the transfer market but we’re still in the calm before the storm for Ruben Amorim’s side after their deal for Matheus Cunha

Manchester United’s summer rebuild has slowed down a little since the arrival of Matheus Cunha, but things could soon be about to pick back up. Ruben Amorim can’t offer potential signings a chance of European football, but he can offer them the chance to be part of a project.

That appears to have been enough to convince Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroon forward is due to arrive from Brentford in another big-money deal, with an announcement expected sooner rather than later.

United’s pre-season campaign is less than a month away. They are due to face newly-promoted Leeds in Sweden in July, with three matches in the US during the Premier League Summer Series and, finally, a return to Old Trafford to face Fiorentina.

There are likely to be plenty of ins and outs before then. Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are among those expected to leave for the right price, while the likes of Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen will leave upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of June.

As we prepare to move from June into July, fans will be eager for updates. Here are Mirror Football‘s latest lines from around Old Trafford.

United receive Martinez message

Manchester United have received encouragement that Emi Martinez would welcome an Old Trafford move. The Aston Villa and Argentina star has also been linked with Chelsea, and to clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

The links to United come amid questions over the future of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. Third-choice keeper Tom Heaton is staying at Old Trafford, though, having signed a new contract during the week.

Martinez was visibly emotional after the final home game of the season, prompting reporters to ask Villa boss Unai Emery about the player’s future. “We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field, at the moment they are responding and they are so, so focused in how we are preparing and playing each match,” the manager said.

Chelsea close in on Garnacho alternative

Chelsea have already turned down the chance to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United and they now look increasingly unlikely to move on to Alejandro Garnacho. The winger was linked with a January move to Stamford Bridge, but a summer return appears unlikely.

That’s because the Blues have turned their attentions to Jamie Gittens. According to Sky Sports, the London side are moving closer to a deal for Gittens, who spent time in Manchester City’s academy before moving to Germany as a teenager.

Gittens, an England Under-21 international, is part of Dortmund’s Club World Cup squad. Representatives for Chelsea and Dortmund have reportedly been engaged in productive conversations over the 20-year-old.

Amorim makes board request

Ruben Amorim has made a special request to Manchester United’s board to bring in ally Acacio Valentim, according to Record. Valentim, 49, previously worked with Amorim at Braga.

Valentim left Braga earlier this year, and Amorim is said to be keen on a reunion. United’s head coach brought in his own coaching staff after joining from Sporting CP in 2024 and could now make a further new addition.

Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira were all added to United’s ranks shortly after the new boss came in. Ruud van Nistelrooy was among the previous staff members to leave around the same time, with the Dutchman spending a short time as Leicester City manager.
