Marcus Rashford has six days to find a new club before he is reunited with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United ’s first day of pre-season training.

The deadline for Aston Villa to make Rashford’s loan move permanent passed on Monday, with Unai Emery ’s side choosing against opting to activate a £40m clause built into their agreement after the England forward scored four goals in a campaign ended early by injury. But Villa confirmed that Rashford was one of five players released on June 30, the final day of his loan.

He is widely tipped to make a move abroad with Bayern Munich the latest club reportedly interested in a move for the 27-year-old. And joining the Bundesliga champions may suit him down to the ground with Vincent Kompany keen to bolster his attack and a guarantee of Champions League football.

Barcelona also remain keen on bringing him to La Liga. United, however, are determined to make £40m for the academy graduate – meaning he will represent pure profit on the balance sheet – and Rashford is almost certain to take a cut on his £300,000-a-week salary.

And Rashford is not the only one facing a potential awkward reunion with head coach Amorim next week.

Brazil forward Antony is also set to report for duty after his successful loan move at Real Betis, while United are actively aiming to sell off a number of other players to finance improvements to the squad.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and remain keen on a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, though the Bees asking price remains some way off United’s current valuation, while talk of a move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has slowed because his current side appear unwilling to budge on a £85m asking price.

Rashford’s most recent United appearance came on December 12 last year, when he lasted 56 minutes of the Europa League win away to Viktoria Plzen. He was then dropped from the squad by Amorim for the derby away to Manchester City with the head coach also appearing to question his commitment following the visit to Fulham in January – days before his loan to Villa.

Amorim’s side will officially kick off pre-season training next Monday, July 7, with their first friendly pencilled in against promoted rivals Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19.

They then head to the United States for a training camp and three warm-up fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before hosting Fiorentina at Old Trafford a week before the Premier League season kicks off.
