Mikel Arteta is seemingly facing a backlash from some Arsenal fans – as “Arteta Out” messages have appeared around the Emirates Stadium with frustration mounting over their transfer activity and their continued trophy drought

‘Arteta Out’ messages have appeared over some of Arsenal’s club-associated artwork around the Emirates Stadium – as some Gunners fans grow frustrated the club’s summer transfer business.

Noni Madueke’s possible arrival from Chelsea has split the fan base, and those who disagree appear to have directed their frustration at the man in the dugout. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking ranks with a No 9 their priority, but they also want to add more quality out wide.

After missing out on Nico Williams Madueke has emerged as a target as he looks to have fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Talks are ongoing over a move that could cost Arsenal in the region of £50million.

Not every supporter is in love with the potential arrival though and have directed their anger at Mikel Arteta who, whilst being instrumental in the club’s recent rise, has not delivered a trophy in five years despite huge investment in the playing squad and – for some – patience is running out.

As a result some fans have made their feelings clear, defacing artwork demanding that Arteta be sacked. One fan reacted by saying: “These protests must continue. Arsenal need Arteta sack!” Another claimed: “Cannot wait till we sack Arteta.”

Arteta has landed the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, but equally several of his signings have not had the desired affect. Despite that the Spaniard, who has achieved three successive second place finishes, retains the backing of a huge amount of fans.

Others clearly disagreed with the view that he should be sacked with one fan saying on social media: “Come on. This ain’t it, man.” Alongside the same sentiment another added: “Sometimes I’m ashamed to be a Arsenal fan.” Others suggested that the words had been written by rival fans.

Thousands of Arsenal fans have signed an online petition as they close in on the signing of Madueke. One supporter has set up a ‘#NOTOMADUEKE’ petition on the website change.org and it has already gained more than 4,000 signatures after being set up on Wednesday.

“The user, who goes by the name of Blaze Fifty, that created the petition and said: “Arsenal fans deserve better, we are so close to success and instead of capitalising on the squad we have it seems we are moving 2 steps back just like the 3 previous transfer windows.

“We can surely do better than Madueke & [Viktor] Gyokeres show some ambition repay the fans the same way we’ve backed the club for the past 2 decades.”

Arsenal have so far landed Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer. Kepa moved from Chelsea and follows Jorginho and Kai Havertz in swapping the Blues for the Gunners and Madueke, who scored 11 times last term, could now follow.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca recently claimed that Madueke should consider moving on if he is not happy at the club. He said: “My message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us. The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. It’s not for Noni, it’s for all the players we have.”
