Newcastle have rejected an offer from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isak and it appears as though a deal for the 25-year-old is unlikely to be reached this summer

Liverpool are willing to walk away from Alexander Isak after Newcastle rejected an offer worth £120million including add-ons for the striker. Isak wants to leave Newcastle this summer and has not joined the club’s pre-season tour of South Korea.

Newcastle do not want to lose the Sweden international, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, and do not have another recognised senior striker following the departure of Callum Wilson after his contract expired.

And according to a new report from BBC Sport, Liverpool do not believe that a deal for Isak is ‘achievable’ with Newcastle valuing the 25-year-old at £150m. That could mean their ambitious plans are shelved, unless his current club are willing to compromise.

The Magpies are said to be steadfast in their insistence that Isak will not be sold below their valuation – and even if that is met, they will not sanction a deal unless a replacement has been officially secured.

Liverpool have already spent more than £250m this summer on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

When asked about Isak’s future earlier this week, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him.

“I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year.”

Isak has three years left on his contract and Howe added that he had not yet spoken with club chiefs about the situation. “No, I haven’t. Mainly for the fact I’ve been travelling and today we’ve been working on the training for this afternoon,” he said.

“With these trips, they are always so intense. Of course, I’m in contact with the people I need to be in contact with back at home, but it’s very minimal contact when you’re away.

“It is an important time for us. There is lots to take in. We have to bring the right type of player in. We should in no way act out of character and should work how we always have in the window.

“That is in a strategic way. If the right player isn’t available to us for the right price, then we can’t do the deals. Everything has to fall in line.

“We are looking to add depth and quality to the areas that we have identified. Fingers crossed we can get deals done.”
