Premier League icon Jamie Vardy is still without a club after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season but he could soon be offered a lifeline by the Italian champions
Jamie Vardy could be set to seal a dream transfer to Italy with Napoli, the reigning Italian champions, said to be interested in signing the veteran free agent.
Vardy, 38, has been without a club since leaving Leicester at the end of the 2024-25 campaign. And despite links to numerous clubs, both in England and overseas, the former England striker is still unattached as we approach the end of August. Everton, Celtic and Rangers are among the latest teams to be linked with Vardy, who plundered 200 goals in 500 games for Leicester.
But Napoli are also weighing up a shock approach for Vardy in their search for a new No.9. The Italian champions are desperate for attacking reinforcements after learning that Romelu Lukaku could be out for up to three months due to a thigh injury.

And the fact that Vardy is available on a free transfer makes him an enticing option for Napoli boss Antonio Conte. The Italian giants also have other targets, such as Manchester United‘s Rasmus Hojlund and Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea, but may struggle to finance a deal for either of those players – even as United look to move out their Danish misfit.
They would have no such issues with Vardy, who has made it clear he wants to keep playing at an elite level. Intriguingly, a move to Serie A was almost on the cards earlier this summer before Patrick Vieira, the boss of Genoa, apparently vetoed a move for Vardy.

Tutto Mercato claimed back in July that the club’s sporting director, Flavio Ricciardella had done the legwork on a deal which would have been financed by support from sponsors. But while Ricciardella was keen on the idea of bringing Vardy to Genoa, Vieira did not foresee the veteran fitting in with his style of play and angled for the club to pull the plug on a deal, leaving Vardy unattached.
More recently, Vardy’s wife, Rebekah Vardy, fuelled speculation that he could be heading to the MLS with Inter Miami after sharing a snap of their children in the club’s kits on social media. But such claims have since been shot down, with Vardy’s next move still unknown.
