A 30-year-old footballer collapsed and died in front of his mum one day before his first training session with a new club. Luca Aluisi was at home yesterday morning, August 19, when he ‘suddenly started feeling unwell‘. He reportedly fell to the floor and lost consciousness. By the time emergency responders arrived, it was too late to save him.

In mid-June, Aluisi celebrated his transfer to Castell’Azzara, in Italy’s Tuscany region. He was due to begin pre-season training today, August 20, after passing his medical exams.

A club spokesperson said he had been “ready to wear our shirt and begin this new sporting journey”. They added: “ASD Castell’Azzara is deeply shocked by the tragic news this morning of Luca Aluisi’s passing.

“The young thirty-year-old was ready to wear our jersey and embark on this new sporting adventure with enthusiasm. The club joins in his family’s grief over Luca’s sudden loss.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones. Every training session, every match, every goal: Luca will always be with us. Goodbye Luca.”

Aluisi, originally from Marta in the Lazio region, had played as a midfielder for several local teams, as reported by NeedToKnow. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Marco – now a police officer in Viterbo – by playing for Ischia di Castro and his boyhood club Virtus Marta.

Virtus Marta president Massimo Natali said: “He had played with us since he was a child, always showing passion and dedication. He was a kind, sensitive young man who took part in community activities. His memory will live on in all of us.”

According to Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano, Aluisi was a familiar figure to many in the village. Mayor Maurizio Lacchini shared his condolences to the family: “We stand with them and share their grief.”

Aluisi had been an amateur footballer for several years. This year, he signed with ASD Castell’Azzara after several seasons with Marta in Lazio’s Second Division. The cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem.

ASD Castell’Azzara is a community sports club based in Castell’Azzara, a municipality in the Grosseto province of Tuscany, Italy. The club takes part in several football leagues and tournaments, including those run by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

Many people shared messages of sympathy and condolence in the comment section. A spokesperson for Atletico Piancastagnaio club said, “Condolences from the entire Atletico Piancastagnaio club.” Another message reads: “Condolences from the entire Virtus Amiata company.”
