Liverpool are expected to be busy over the final 24 hours of the transfer window with Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi potentially set to be among their deadline day arrivals

Crystal Palace have made their stance on Marc Guehi very clear – he’s still an important player for the Eagles. Liverpool are eyeing a late move for the England defender over the final 24 hours over the transfer market.

The Reds have already had a couple of bids turned down by Palace for Guehi’s signature. But with just a year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, Palace could potentially be open to letting him leave should their asking price be met.

Guehi will not be going anywhere in the immediate future though after the South London club dropped a major hint on his future. The defender was once again named in Oliver Glasner’s starting XI against Aston Villa on Sunday evening and captained the side.

The call followed a telling comment from the Palace boss ahead of the game. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “Yes, everybody can see how many players we have available.

“Everybody can see how important Marc is, so honestly, I don’t know, but I really deeply hope that Marc will play for us at Villa Park. I deeply hope that Marc will play until the end of the season for us.”

Speaking shortly before kick-off at Villa Park, the Palace boss added: “Of course he has a contract here at Crystal Palace. He plays well, he trains here. And it’s clear that he plays.

“The situation is clear. Everybody knows about it. Marc is a great guy and that’s why he plays.”

Liverpool had installed Guehi as one of their prime targets following the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. And their need appears to have grown over recent days.

Ibrahima Konate was withdrawn with what looked like an injury in the second half of Sunday’s 1-0 win against title rivals Arsenal. He was replaced by Joe Gomez – the England man himself having been linked with a move to AC Milan, albeit Liverpool are determined to keep hold of him.

Giving an update on Konate’s fitness, Slot said: “It’s not a way of asking it. I could only not take one player into the game so I had to leave one out and that was a centre back. I think we were quite well in terms of centre backs. I think it was only cramp so I don’t think it was an injury. We have to find out in the upcoming games.”

Away from Guehi, Liverpool could also have plenty more work to do when it comes to their squad on deadline day. They are also pursuing another Premier League star in the form of Alexander Isak, albeit Newcastle are determined to keep hold of him.

A number of stars could potentially also leave the club over the next 24 hours. Kostas Tsimikas is expected to complete a loan move to Italian giants Roma, while Harvey Elliott’s future looks slightly uncertain amid interest from RB Leipzig.
