Conor McGregor has announced a business a deal with Donald Trump’s son.

McGregor, who continues to fight a losing battle in his attempt to become president of Ireland, announced the arrival of Donald Jr at an MMA company the UFC star is involved in. MMA.Inc promises to provide an “integrated platform for the global combat sports industry”.

And welcoming Trump Jr in the role of strategic advisor, McGregor said on social media: “Amazing news. Welcome aboard my friend, and now business partner Donald Trump Jr, to our highly skilled team at MMA.Inc. With a business powerhouse like Don Jr joining our team, we are set to amplify our message and accelerate our commercialism like never before!

“The Trumps and McGregors, a truly iconic team. Ireland and America’s deeply rooted relations will be stronger than ever under my tenure, Ireland.”

Trump Jr said in a statement: “The incredible success of the UFC has proven just how powerful mixed martial arts has become, building one of the largest global fanbases in all of sport.

“That growth has inspired millions of people to take up martial arts training, improving citizens’ physical and mental fortitude while creating a commercial boom for the coaches, academies and small businesses serving this market.

“I am deeply passionate about supporting small business owners to thrive and am eager to help MMA.INC connect these businesses with fans who want to learn, train, and push themselves to be their best.”

McGregor insists he remains on track to run for president in his homeland, despite mounting opposition. The former two-weight UFC champion requires the support of four of Ireland’s 31 councils but faces an uphill struggle. One Cork councillor has already insisted he will not back McGregor.

In a post on social media, Peter Horgan explained: “I’ve received a few emails regarding Conor McGregor seeking a nomination from Cork City Council for the Presidential Election.

“I want to make it absolutely clear, I take my role under the Constitution seriously in the availability of me as an elected member of Cork City Council and the role of nominating a candidate for Uachtaran.

“But I absolutely will not be supporting any attempt of Conor McGregor to become President and will not facilitate him to be on any ballot. His message is one of division and not what the Presidency, nor the country, needs. I look forward to the Presidential meeting of September 15 and seeing a list of names seeking such a nomination.”

McGregor has not fought since he broke his leg at the end of the first round of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in 2021. He is planning to return next summer when the UFC hosts a fight night on the garden of The White House.
