Steve Evans has explained how he lost six-and-a-half stone in just six months after leaving Rotherham United in March. The EFL icon is currently still without a job but he has spent his time off getting in shape.

Evans, 62, was sacked by Rotherham before the end of last season and he made the decision to prioritise his health instead of jumping straight into a new job. His plan involved speaking to health specialists and trainers with the aim to improve his diet and activity levels.

Now, Evans has revealed he swims 2.5 kilometres every morning, cycles regularly and clocks up thousands of steps. “I came out of Rotherham and made some family decisions,” he told Sky Sports. “Despite the phone ringing from a couple of clubs to go straight into them, I made the decision to get healthy.

“I had not done it since the end of my time at Leeds United so a lot of years. “I went to see some serious people and some specialists, a cardiologist and fitness people.”

“We came up with a plan and my family did not think I would be able to do it. “Here we are six months or so later, six-and-a-half stone down.

“It has been incredibly hard work, but I am feeling the benefit now mentally and physically, feeling fantastic.” Evans’ transformation has been praised with many in football applauding his efforts.

He is not done yet, though. “It’s a little bit more weight loss for another two-to-three weeks, and then hopefully by that time it’ll be about conditioning, which will be another tough part to go through, but I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” he added.

Evans has his eye on a new job soon, but will be patient and wait for the right opportunity. “I am ready to make a difference to a team,” he continued.

“I do not need to rush because we are fortunate as a family that we can wait for the right one to come. “But I will get that feeling and then, as my wife and family know, we will be down the track.”

Evans was sacked by Rotherham in March having returned to the club for a second time last year. He has also had spells at Stevenage, Gillingham and Peterborough United.
