Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi left teammate Viktor Gyokeres stunned with his goal-scoring heroics during the 3-0 Premier League triumph over Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime. The Gunners returned to winning ways following the international break with a commanding verdict over Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Zubimendi netted his maiden goals for Arsenal in the victory. His superb opener arrived in the 32nd minute, with Gyokeres extending Arsenal’s advantage shortly after the interval. Zubimendi then bagged his brace to clinch the victory – and three points – with 11 minutes remaining.

Zubimendi isn’t renowned for finding the net, but Mikel Arteta will be delighted to witness him incorporate this element into his game for Arsenal, despite it even catching his own colleagues off guard. Speaking to TNT Sports following the final whistle, Arsenal striker Gyokeres expressed his astonishment at both the midfielder’s strikes. “I haven’t seen him do that in training, to be fair, so it was good that he pulled that one out,” he remarked about the opening goal.

“The header as well, I was a bit surprised with that. But great to see him score two.”

The encounter carried additional intrigue with ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager Postecoglou overseeing his first game in charge of Forest after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the club. However, it was Arsenal’s stars who dominated the spotlight, with summer acquisitions Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke particularly catching the eye with their displays.

“Those two are amazing in their positions,” Gyokeres added. “They always do something special. We definitely saw that today.”

Gyokeres’ strike marked his third goal for Arsenal since his summer move from Sporting CP, with all three efforts coming at the Emirates Stadium. “It feels amazing, just a great feeling to score and get the win as well,” he added.

“It feels great, the guys in the team have been amazing,” he went on regarding his adaptation at Arsenal. “It’s been so easy to get into the group. But, of course, there is a bit of time where you have to settle in with everything.”

Arsenal return to action on Tuesday evening when they meet Athletic Club away from home in their Champions League opener (5.45pm). Arsenal won’t be complaining if Zubimendi continues to surprise his teammates with his goal-scoring prowess.
