Manchester United have lost three of their opening five games in all competitions and the mood has soured among the squad following the defeat to Manchester City
Manchester United stars players growing increasingly worried about how quickly the atmosphere has soured at Old Trafford following two disappointing defeats in their opening four Premier League matches.
The Red Devils suffered a home loss to Arsenal on the opening weekend and were thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City on Sunday, while their League Cup journey came to an embarrassing end with a penalty shootout defeat to League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
The Manchester Evening News claim sources within the dressing room reveal the atmosphere following the derby has been especially downbeat. United players have been lamenting a “missed opportunity” against a City team that had previously lost their last two encounters against Tottenham and Brighton.
The United squad had been optimistic about the potential for a successful campaign after an encouraging pre-season tour of the United States, where they were mainly stationed in Chicago.
However, their season has already gone off the rails with just one victory from five matches, which came courtesy of a 97th-minute spot-kick against newly-promoted Burnley three weeks ago.

Questions surrounding the goalkeeper position have significantly added to United’s troubled beginning, with Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana both making costly mistakes that resulted in goals during the defeats to Arsenal and Grimsby.
At the other end of the pitch, £73.62million striker Benjamin Sesko remains without a goal after five appearances and United have netted just once from open play across six hours of Premier League action.
United find themselves in 14th place as they prepare for their Saturday evening clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, with away games against Brentford and a home match against Sunderland to follow before the October international break.
The heat is on head coach Ruben Amorim, who has overseen a disappointing run of just eight wins from 31 Premier League matches since his appointment on November 11. Notably, only five of those victories were against current Premier League teams.
United are languishing at the bottom of a table of 17 ever-present top-flight teams, dating back to Amorim’s first game at the helm against Ipswich Town on November 24.
