Mohamed Salah was named as the fourth best player in the world on Monday evening as he missed out on the Ballon d’Or, but his Liverpool team-mates have shown their support
Mohamed Salah has been backed by a host of current and former team-mates after being overlooked for the Ballon d’Or. Despite a stellar season where he netted an impressive 34 goals and provided 23 assists across all competitions, leading Liverpool to Premier League glory, Salah only managed to secure fourth place in the prestigious award’s voting.
The Egyptian forward has kicked off the new season on a high note, already boasting three goals and three assists. However, this wasn’t enough to clinch the coveted Ballon d’Or.
He was outvoted by Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha, Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal, and the ultimate winner, Ousmane Dembele. Salah opted not to attend the glamorous ceremony held in Paris on Monday evening.

Following the announcement of his ranking, Liverpool expressed their support for their star player. They shared a series of snaps of the Egyptian forward with the caption: “A season to savour from Salah,” accompanied by a red heart emoji.
Several of Salah’s current colleagues, including Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Ryan Gravenberch, showed their support by liking the post. Luis Diaz, a former Liverpool teammate, also offered a like.
Salah’s Ballon d’Or ranking follows former Egypt international and Premier League striker Mido’s assertion that his fellow countryman deserved the accolade. He stated: “I honestly believe that Salah should be the winner by the end of the night. He deserves to be crowned after all what he has done to the football world.
“He’s been a great example to all youngsters all over the world he gave them hope and he’s been the pride of his country Egypt. Be fair to him just for one time and make it happen this year! ! Give him what he deserves the Ballon d’Or.”
Meanwhile, Egypt’s national team manager Hossam Hassan also threw his support behind the Liverpool star. He said: “Considering the hardships he encountered along his journey, he deserves it.. Based on the size of the challenges you overcome, he deserves it.
