Aston Villa are set to confirm the departure of Monchi, who has been a close key ally of Unai Emery
Monchi is set to leave Aston Villa, with an official announcement anticipated soon. The President of Football Operations at the club has been in post for just over two years, having joined in the summer of 2023.
During his tenure, he’s managed five transfer windows, the most recent being the summer 2025 window, which came after the blow of Villa failing to secure a Champions League spot.
A trusted ally of Unai Emery, Monchi previously worked with him at Sevilla, where they clinched Europa League titles.
News of Monchi’s impending departure, which surfaced on Monday evening, ignited speculation about Emery’s future at the club.
However, BirminghamLive reports that Emery is not affected by Monchi’s exit.
What remains uncertain is how swiftly Villa will move to appoint a replacement, and who that might be.
Villa have had a dismal start to the season, failing to secure a victory in any of their six matches across all competitions, and managing to net only two goals during this period.
They currently languish in the relegation zone after five Premier League matches and were held to a draw by a 10-man Sunderland side on Sunday.
