As the Varsity Blues alum noted, “I was more proud of how you handled the mess-up than if you’d done it all perfectly the start.”

And as a final note on his daughter’s birthday, James—also dad to Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 6, and Jeremiah, 2—shared some loving advice.

“Keep taking big swings, kiddo,” he concluded. “Risk imperfection.  Keep dreaming big and most importantly, be true to who you are.  Because, while only YOU will know exactly who your most authentic self will be, as someone who’s known you your whole life… I can guarantee you’re going to love her.”

Kimberly, too, reveled in the love for her oldest, writing in the comments alongside a heart-eyed emoji, “Our first born baby.”

Following the Sept. 22 reunion in NYC, which saw James’ costars Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson and more step out to support him and the organization F–k Cancer, Kimberly detailed the love she felt inside the theater for her husband of 15 years and the legacy of Dawson’s Creek.
