Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso was linked with a move to Manchester City and Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, having caught the eye in Serie A

Juventus boss Igor Tudor reckons Andrea Cambiaso has what it takes to turn out for Liverpool one day. The defender has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola keen on bringing in fresh blood at left-back, though no deal came to fruition.

Cambiaso, who is tied down at the Allianz Stadium until June 2029, has made two Serie A appearances this term, contributing to the Old Lady’s rise to second place in the table. Despite picking up a red card on the opening weekend of the new season, the 25-year-old has largely caught the eye.

Speaking to journalists ahead of this weekend’s clash against Atalanta, Tudor was quizzed about whether Cambiaso could operate in the middle of the park. As quoted by Italian publication Il Bianconero, the Juventus boss said: “He could play as a winger; he has a different mindset, he sees the game as a midfielder too.

“He needs to be more consistent; he’s potentially a player for the best clubs in the world, but he has to decide. If he decides, he can play for Real Madrid, Liverpool, or Manchester City.”

While Tudor is convinced Cambiaso possesses the ability to feature for ‘the best clubs in the world’, Liverpool might find it tough to lure him away from Turin.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport in October 2024, the Italy star discussed his future plans. He said: “History of Italian football, a second family and a massive point of arrival in my career.

“Only being linked with a club like Real Madrid feels like something bigger than me. I am proud of the admirers I may have; it’s motivating to know that somebody appreciates you, but I haven’t received any proposal.

“In any case, Juventus are my Real Madrid. I’ve extended until 2029, and I want to stay for as long as possible.”

If Liverpool were to sign Cambiaso, he would face tough competition from Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez for a place in the club’s starting lineup. Speaking recently to the BBC, the latter explained how his vice-captain has helped him adapt to life in Merseyside.

“Before the game [Saturday’s Merseyside derby], he motivated me and told me: ‘Go outside and do your thing that you were doing last season.’ So he gave me a bit of a push,” said Kerkez.

“Then, after the game, he congratulated me and told me I should keep going like that. We are good. He’s a legend who did amazing things, won everything and still has quality.

“It’s not like he’s not here. He’s a squad player. This is Liverpool and we’re competing. He’s pushing me and I’m pushing him – and that’s important to have in a big club like this.”

The Hungary international has struggled to since swapping the Vitality Stadium for Anfield, but he’s keen to block out any criticism. He added: “Obviously you have to adapt and the coach and the players are helping me a lot so I’m improving a lot every day.

“I’m playing a bit different here than Bournemouth but I’m not listening too much to outside noise.”
