Alexander Isak has struggled to make an impact at Liverpool since his record-breaking move from Newcastle United in the summer and Magpies supporters have been quick to give their verdict

Newcastle United fans have been quick to point out why Alexander Isak is finding life tough at Liverpool after his high-profile move to Anfield in the summer.

The Swedish striker has only managed to find the net once in five outings across all competitions since his record-breaking transfer to Liverpool, with that goal coming against Southampton in the Carabao Cup earlier this month. With just 238 minutes of play under his belt so far, Isak hasn’t yet made his mark in either the Premier League or the Champions League.

He’s been sharing game time with fellow newcomer Hugo Ekitike, as he wasn’t fully fit for the start of the season due to refusing to train with Eddie Howe’s first team during pre-season.

Isak was subbed on just past the hour in Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in their Champions League group stage match at RAMS Park.

The Reds were already down by a goal when he entered the pitch, courtesy of a penalty from Victor Osimhen, who was once on Newcastle’s radar.

During his 28 minutes of action on Tuesday night, the 26-year-old only had four touches, prompting Magpies fans to suggest his struggles were evident even before his switch to Anfield.

Highlighting Isak’s limited involvement, one Newcastle supporter posted on X: “Nice work if you can get it. Did anyone check how many non-penalty league goals he has scored since the cup final mid-March – l will let you into a 125m secret, TWO.”

Another added: “Newcastle have absolutely had Liverpool’s pants down with the fee for a player past his prime.”

And a third shared: “Thoroughly enjoying watching Isak struggle after what he did to us.

“I’ve been saying he won’t reach the heights he did with us at Liverpool and people were telling me I’m just bitter. It’s a different ball game when the whole team are playing to supply you! Long may it continue.”

Liverpool supporters didn’t hesitate to highlight the contrasts at Newcastle, as one pointed out: “Isak flourished at Newcastle because he had Gordon’s pace next to him and a midfield always looking for him.

“We don’t really have pace without Diaz any more and we don’t have a midfield that’s getting the ball forward into dangerous positions. We don’t have a style of play.”

Another Reds fan offered their analysis, saying: “He came from a team who pumped the ball upfield quickly. They played him in over the top and they pumped it up to wingers down the channels who whipped it in for him. We just hold the ball for ages and have a slow ponderous build up. That’s not Isak’s game.”

A third also weighed in on the tactical differences, posting: “We don’t play the same way Newcastle did. Don’t get as much space as Newcastle.

“They have wingers who put decent balls into the box. Our wingers cut back allowing the defenders to get set behind the ball. Too slow. We also don’t attack the byline and pull it back.”
