Ruben Amorim is on shaky ground at Manchester United after a dismal start to the new season

Manchester United hit a new low on Saturday as they were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Brentford. United boss Ruben Amorim had managed to alleviate some of the intense pressure on him after beating Chelsea a week prior to the defeat to the Bees.

However, Keith Andrews’ side ultimately cruised to victory after Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty. Amorim now finds his already precarious position under threat once again.

United currently sit 14th in the Premier League and have won just two games all season. With Amorim’s 3-4-3 system under scrutiny, new signing Bryan Mbeumo has lifted the lid on his thoughts on the formation.

Zinedine Zidane has also broken his silence as he continues to be linked to the United job. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest news coming out of Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo’s thoughts on Amorim system

Mbeumo was brought in by Amorim this summer from Brentford. Although the French star has looked sharp in a United shirt he endured a tricky return to west London at the weekend.

After the game, the 26-year-old shared his opinion of Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system. “Of course, it’s a little different for me, but I’ve been playing this system in the past as well,” he told Sky Sports.

“Obviously, we have a lot of things, but it’s our responsibility to find the good things and to be better, I think. I don’t think there is anything [wrong] about the system, it’s just us improving in certain areas.”

“Of course it will improve, we haven’t played a lot together, so there are certain things that we’re going to improve, and there are different types of players, but it’s good to be with them.”

Zidane breaks his silence

Zidane has tantalisingly ended a mini break from social media this week. The former French icon posted a photo on Instagram, posing against the New York City skyline.

While he’s clearly enjoying his time off, fans will now be keeping a keen eye on the 53-year-old’s next move. The post is the first personal one he has shared for a week and speculation will be rife that he timed the post just as rumours about him taking the United job have surfaced once again.

However, his agent, Alain Migliaccio, had previously claimed that Zidane was not interested in managing in the Premier League. “I do not think that he will manage in England. It is much less his style. I have discussed it with him,” he said, adding: “It does not really attract him.”

Ben Foster names Amorim replacement

Should Amorim receive his marching orders from United, names such as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and ex-England boss Gareth Southgate have been touted. However, United have also been credited with an interest in Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola. The Cherries are sixth in the Premier League after just one defeat so far this season and former United goalkeeper Foster believes the Spaniard could have what it takes to change United’s fortunes.

“Iraola is the one for me,” he said on the Ben Foster – The Cycling GK podcast. “To lose half your squad, half your starting line-up, and then still be just as impressive, for me, that means you’re a proper coach. But if they’re trying to get Iraola or Glasner then it’s going to cost an awful lot of money.”

Foster also made a case for ex-Three Lions boss Southgate taking the Old Trafford hot seat. He added: “I just think with Gareth Southgate, it’s so different to what they’ve ever done and what they’re doing isn’t working.”
