Newsboy reckons his nap, Shamardal Star, will shine brightly at Southwell and score a second win on the bounce in the 8.00, and he also rates Warrant Holder a good thing at Leicester in the 5.02.
SHAMARDAL STAR is expected to sparkle and score back-to-back victories by taking the Download The At The Races App Handicap (8.00) at Southwell over 1m 3f.
The six-year-old, now trained by Richard Fahey (below), was winning at the 11th attempt on his third outing for his new yard when well backed at Newcastle over 1m 2f in August.
Tucked in behind the leaders, the son of Shamardal was cruising two furlongs out but was hemmed in on the rail and had to wait an eternity for a gap to appear.
Once it did he put the race to bed in emphatic fashion, winning by a cosy half a length.
The form has been franked since and the extra furlong should suit him and a 5lb penalty is manageable.
At Leicester, WARRANT HOLDER will be hard to beat in the Kube – Leicester’s Premier Event Hire Venue Handicap (5.02) over 1m 4f.
Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the three-year-old royal runner has had just the three outings.
The Frankel colt was second on his debut at Newcastle in February and then went one better at Gosforth Park the following month.
He was last seen 17 days ago at Newmarket, where match fitness was a factor when beaten half a length by Mothecombe.
