One of Liverpool’s key defenders has linked up with his national team despite suffering an injury in the Reds’ defeat to Chelsea
Andy Robertson has handed Liverpool a fresh fitness boost ahead of the October international break. The 31-year-old has joined up with Scotland’s squad and appears to have eased concerns over a problem he picked up during the Reds’ defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The left-back was spotted hobbling away in discomfort after the final whistle at Stamford Bridge, having taken a knock as Liverpool succumbed to a dramatic 2-1 loss in stoppage time. However, he has linked up with the international squad despite the concern.
And the defender has now revealed his excitement at pulling on the Scotland shirt once more during the break, after seeing his first-team chances restricted at Anfield this campaign.

“I can’t wait,” Robertson told the Scotland national team’s YouTube channel ahead of Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Greece on Thursday.
“It feels ages since we have been back here, especially for a meaningful game, a competitive game.
“Me and the boys just can’t wait to be back out in front of the fans and give them something to shout about.”
Robertson has featured six times for Liverpool this season, though has been handed just two starts after being displaced by Milos Kerkez.
The Hungarian has appeared in all 11 of the Reds’ fixtures following his £40m switch from AFC Bournemouth, but has endured a difficult spell and faced harsh criticism after his most recent performance against Chelsea.
Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his criticism of the defender following Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea, branding him ‘naïve’, ‘a baby’ and ‘a youth team player’.
Meanwhile, ex-Scotland star Craig Burley reckons that Kerkez is on borrowed time under Slot and will soon be replaced by Robertson in the starting XI.
“He’s (Slot) brought in one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in Kerkez, who’s just lost confidence in his form,” Burley commented on ESPN FC. “I think he’s about to get dropped for Andy Robertson.
“I think he’s going to have to bring Andy Robertson back into the team. The whole backline is not working right.”
Scotland boss Steve Clarke recently hinted that Robertson had accurately foreseen how both his and Kerkez’s seasons would pan out after having a heart-to-heart with the defender.
“I’d a good chat with Andy last week and a good chat with him before the season,” he disclosed ahead of the international break, as reported by the Daily Record.
“And it has panned out pretty much how we thought it would at the time, that Kerkez would start in the team but Andy would find his way into the team.
“That’s what’s happened. He’s had minutes… we always knew Andy would get lots of minutes.
“On the plus side for us, if he’s getting good minutes for Liverpool but not getting all the minutes, it means he comes into Scotland camps probably a little bit fresher than he has been in recent years, which can only be good for us.”
Liverpool will welcome Manchester United to Anfield after the international break, leaving Slot with a tough decision on whether to stick with Kerkez or bring back Robertson into his starting XI.
