Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were both taken out of the United States Grand Prix Sprint race on the first lap after a collision with Nico Hulkenberg

McLaren boss Zak Brown has cleared both his drivers of any fault for the crash that saw them both bow out of the United States Grand Prix Sprint race on the first lap. Nico Hulkenberg collided with Oscar Piastri at the first corner, causing the Aussie to spin into his team-mate Lando Norris.

Norris was instantly out of the race due to severe damage. Piastri initially managed to carry on but soon reported suspension damage and was instructed to stop the car.

Responding to the incident just moments after it occurred, Brown told Sky Sports he did not hold his drivers responsible and criticised Hulkenberg’s actions.

“That was terrible,” he said. “Neither of our drivers were to blame there. “That was some amateur hour driving from some of the drivers up there at the front and wiped our two guys.

“I want to see the replay again but, clearly, Nico drove into Oscar and he had no business being where he was and went into his left-rear tyre.”
