Ryan Gravenberch missed Liverpool’s open training session ahead of their Champions League trip to Eintracht Frankfurt after twisting his ankle against Manchester United

Ryan Gravenberch has handed Liverpool an injury scare ahead of the Reds’ European clash with Eintracht Frankfurt after missing open training on Tuesday. The Dutch midfielder was forced off during Sunday’s disappointing defeat to Manchester United after twisting his ankle.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury whilst tussling with Bryan Mbeumo early in the second period, and despite initially attempting to continue, he was taken offjust past the hour-mark as Liverpool slumped to a 2-1 loss.

Boss Arne Slot confirmed following the match that Gravenberch‘s substitution was due to his injury and that he would be evaluated before Wednesday’s trip to Germany.

“I took him off because he twisted his ankle,” Slot explained post-match. “Is he an injury concern? That’s what we have to wait and see tomorrow, but we have to play [on Wednesday] again.”

However, following his absence from open training, the Reds appear likely to be without the Netherlands star against Frankfurt, reports the Liverpool Echo.

There was more encouraging news for Liverpool elsewhere as Wataru Endo made his return to training.

The Japan captain was absent for the United loss due to a hamstring problem, having also withdrawn from international commitments after picking up the issue against Chelsea earlier this month.

Alexis Mac Allister also participated in training despite requiring four stitches for a head wound sustained in the United defeat.

Both the Argentine and Curtis Jones are now potential candidates to deputise for Gravenberch in Liverpool’s defensive midfield role in Germany.

Slot is expected to provide an injury update at his pre-match press conference in Frankfurt, scheduled for 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.

Liverpool will be looking to end a four-game losing run when their Champions League campaign resumes on Wednesday, having lost to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, Chelsea and Manchester United either side of the October international break.
