Sean Dyche hints he was right about Ruben Amorim and Man Utd – ‘They’ve changed’

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United take on Nottingham Forest this weekend, with the Midlands side’s new boss, Sean Dyche, having been critical of the Red Devils manager in the past

Sean Dyche believes Ruben Amorim may have heeded his warnings to finally find a way to win at Manchester United. The Red Devils take on Dyche’s Nottingham Forest this weekend off the back of three consecutive wins.

Another victory at the City Ground could potentially move United into the Premier League top four – a remarkable position given their dire start to the campaign and the previous crisis they found themselves in. That turnaround comes after comments from Dyche earlier this year, in which he claimed that he would ‘win more games’ at Old Trafford by reverting back to basics.

While Amorim recognised that, he seemed wedded to his more comlex philosophy. But ahead of the pair’s meet-up this weekend, Dyche has suggested that the United manager has actually followed his advice.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Forest boss Dyche said: “I didn’t question him as a person and I would never do that. Clickbait kills anything.

“The basics may have worked better was my suggestion and they have changed their style, so fair play to him. They are playing quicker forward and longer, a bit tighter in getting back into their shape. That’s management, that’s coaching.”

On the Red Devils’ impressive turnaround, Dyche added: “They are beginning to turn things around, it seems, but we have to safeguard against that. There are subtle changes in the way they’re playing, and they have delivered performances that can win.

“We’ve got to be aware of that, but equally – if you look at our performance against Porto – that was a performance that we think would win against a lot of teams.

“We need to find our own freedom to it, especially here at the City Ground, where they’re always in good voice, but against the bigger names, on paper. We think we can get that energy between us and that front-foot thinking from the stands, which the players will buzz off.”

While United are back in form, the same cannot quite be said of Forest just yet. They have lost each of their last four Premier League games – the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend leaving them 18th in the table with just five points to their name.

There have been promising signs under Dyche though, the former Everton and Burnley boss having secured a 2-0 win against Portuguese giants Porto in the Europa League in his first game in charge.

Following the clash with United, Forest are back in European action next week as they travel to Sturm Graz, with their next league game pitting them against newly-promoted Leeds United.
