An explosive summer transfer window for Manchester United continues to produce fallout this season. And not just at Old Trafford, either, following fresh word from Stamford Bridge concerning Alejandro Garnacho‘s development.

The Argentina international left Ruben Amorim‘s squad under a cloud of controversy and joined Chelsea in a £40million move. The reduced fee was representative of United’s ambition to offload the player, who appears to have turned a new leaf.

As for new arrivals in Manchester, one Red Devils icon has been particularly impressed by one new signing in recent weeks. Mirror Football explores the latest headlines around Old Trafford ahead of Saturday’s visit to Tottenham.

Garnacho turning a new leaf at Chelsea

Garnacho’s profile at Old Trafford was dented considerably following Amorim’s arrival at the club. There were never any real concerns regarding the winger’s on-field ability, but his position became untenable largely due to doubts over his character.

The South American was implicated in a scandal around this time last year, having been accused of leaking team news. He later branded United’s 2024/25 season as “s***” and alluded to a potential summer exit after he was dropped for the Europa League final defeat to Spurs.

Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, also poured fuel on the fire with comments he made criticising the manager’s decisions on social media. In the end, the player was deemed too troublesome and completed the move to west London after five years in Manchester.

But any signs of rebelliousness appear to have dissipated in the capital. That’s after Give Me Sport reported Chelsea staff have been impressed by the attacker’s “attitude and intensity” in training, even staying late to work on his product in the final third.

His place in Enzo Maresca‘s plans is far from absolute, however. Garnacho has one direct goal involvement in eight outings for the Blues and has had to settle for a place on the bench in Chelsea’s last six Premier League outings.

Whether it’s down to the environment, his new coach or other factors, reports suggest he has changed for the better nonetheless. However, those at United may still wonder whether it’s merely a matter of time before Garnacho’s frustrations bubble to the surface once more in time.

Cunha impact lauded by United legend

Amid a surge of attacking recruitment over the summer, there was plenty for United fans to get excited about ahead of this season. And 1999 Treble-winner Teddy Sheringham has been blown away by the impact made by Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian arrived alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko in a complete renovation of the forward line. And Sheringham, who scored in the iconic comeback win over Bayern Munich more than 25 years ago, is expecting big things from the former Wolves talisman.

“Yes, the tenacity that Matheus Cunha has is definitely needed for a professional footballer to get to the next level,” he told the Manchester Evening News, via Oddspedia. “He certainly has that for me – I’ve really liked watching him over the past three or four games.

“He seemed like he’s found his place in the team – I don’t know whether someone has spoken to him about stepping up to the plate and taking on that mantle of being the focal point of the team, but he’s definitely taken that on in the last month.

“He could be the difference between United being an average team and a very good team. Long may his form continue.”

Cunha scored his first United goal in last month’s impressive 4-2 victory over Brighton. However, fans will be desperate to see the versatile forward improve his returns even further as the Red Devils climb the rungs in the Premier League ladder.
