Benjamin Sesko was forced off with a knee injury in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and Ruben Amorim has admitted that reinforcements could be needed in January
Ruben Amorim has acknowledged Manchester United might need to bolster their forward line in January, with the decision hinging on how serious Benjamin Sesko’s injury proves to be following the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
Sesko came off the bench in the 58th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but managed just 30 minutes before being forced off with a knee problem after receiving medical attention. United were left to see out the match with ten men as Amorim had already exhausted his options from the bench, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The manager addressed the striker’s fitness concerns during his post-match media briefing after the 2-2 draw. “We have to check,” he said. “He had something in his knee, let’s see. Pressed on whether the issue was significant, Amorim responded: “I have no idea. Because it’s the knee, we never know.”

Sesko squandered two promising opportunities against Spurs when presented with decent scoring chances, though Amorim dismissed suggestions that a confidence crisis was the root cause. He remarked: “No, I think… I think that is not the biggest concern now.
“That happened in the same way that he is not scoring and then he scores two goals in the next two games [Brentford and Sunderland ], so that happens, especially with a striker. I’m more concerned with an injury because it’s in the knee and I don’t know. We need Ben to be a better team.”
United face the prospect of losing Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations in December, a situation that has led Amorim to suggest the club might enter the January transfer market. Amorim acknowledged that the seriousness of Sesko’s knee problem might affect their strategy.
“We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben,” he said.
“Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew. Then you can prepare that in the summer, but then you have a lot of players in the summer who are not going to play because it’s one game per week. So the management of that situation is going to be hard.
“But let’s see when the window is open, if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance.”
