Roy Keane says ‘weak’ Liverpool are in crisis after Man City defeat

Liverpool’s title defence was handed another brutal blow after they were torn apart by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and Roy Keane offered some sobering words to the Reds

Roy Keane believes Liverpool are in crisis after slamming them as “really weak” against Manchester City. The Reds were torn apart by their former title rivals at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland gave City the lead having already missed a penalty, while Virgil van Dijk’s equaliser was ruled out for offside. Nico Gonzalez doubled the lead with a deflected effort, while the impressive Jeremy Doku rounded off the scoring in the second half.

The reverse represented Liverpool’s fifth of the campaign, having only suffered four throughout the entirety of last term. It also leaves them eighth and already eight points behind current leaders Arsenal.

In assessing Liverpool’s current form, Keane claims that Arne Slot’s side are now in a full-blown crisis. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I think it is crisis time for Liverpool. They know they can be beaten at Man City, we know it’s a tough place to come and Man City they are showing signs at being back to their very best.

“But to lose seven in 10 and five league losses already this season. It has to be a crisis for a club like Liverpool.

“I thought his assessment of the game today was spot on. I think it was fair, yes the decision went against them but overall, City looked stronger, technically better and they looked much better physically than Liverpool today.

“I thought Liverpool were a really weak team today. They still had moments of course, they’ve got that quality, they can still cause teams problems.

“But defensively, the goals they’re giving away, the decision making. I go back to that word, lack of intensity, lack of energy. They’re chopping and changing, bringing subs on but they just looked really flat.

“I know Gary mentioned there that the manager was pleased with the second-half but the game was over. The game was over. It’s very easy to play when you’re two or three-nil down when the other team has taken their foot off the gas. They’ve got Forest after the international break and Forest are fighting for their lives.”

Defeat against Forest could really make things uncomfortable for Liverpool and Slot. It could potentially put them in the lower half of the Premier League and given the huge funds that the Reds spent in the transfer window, that would represent an awful return for the club.
