Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has sent a warning to Ruben Amorim over the prospect of splashing the cash on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton
Manchester United have been warned over the dangers of signing Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton for £100million. The Red Devils have been linked with the England international as they target a midfielder next summer.
Former Red Devils striker Louis Saha has cautioned Old Trafford chiefs from making such a significant splash. The Frenchman believes hype drives up transfer fees, and it is buying clubs that are often left counting the cost.
United are said to be plotting a £60m move for Eagles ace Wharton. who enjoyed a rapid rise from Blackburn prospect to England international via a transfer to Selhurst Park.
Amorim is said to have kept close tabs on Wharton’s progress in south London has become a huge fan of the midfielder. The United boss believes the 21-year-old has the technical abilities to be a huge success at the club.
Asked if Wharton could make a £100m move, Saha told OLBG : “It’s a possibility.

“I think Adam Wharton is a young lad. I do think that sometimes you have to be careful with those big signings.
“I consider this new market to be extremely dangerous for clubs because you can see the hype that goes up and then you’re left surprised. It took a bit of time for Moises Caicedo to settle at Chelsea as well so there are big signings and sometimes the expectations are too high.
“You have to really read under the lines and that’s not easy. That’s really not an easy market.
“People can throw big numbers. The agents are very pleased with that. I am not a big fan of this.”
Wharton has reflected on the interest building in his future, but only to suggest he does not want to engage in the circus. “I don’t really look into it or think too much about it,” he said. “There are always rumours floating about on social media. Is it true? Is it not? You tell me.
“My friends, my family, my brothers, everyone will message me and be like, ‘Is it true this club’s interested?’ I’m like, ‘Thanks for telling me because I didn’t know.'”.
Asked specifically about United he said: “I don’t know who’s spreading it or who at United is looking at it. I see it and I’m like, ‘OK’, and then I carry on with my day.
“United, the big teams, they’re all linked to 10, 20 different players. If I’m one of 20, then it’s nothing special, so it doesn’t really mean too much. I speak with my agent about planning ahead and possibilities.
“But at the end of the day, it is who’s interested and who’s willing to try and get you and if that becomes the case? You can speak about it, but you’ve got to represent that on the pitch and prove that you deserve it.”
