Arsenal have been in talks with Bukayo Saka for months and a bumper contract could soon be signed whilst discussions with Mikel Arteta are yet to begin at the Emirates

Arsenal are confident a deal with Bukayo Saka will get done following months of discussions, which will likely end with him penning a deal worth more than £300,000-a-week – but no discussions have yet begun over extending Mikel Arteta‘s contract.

Negotiations with Saka’s representatives have been taking place for sometime and it is understood that all parties are confident of a positive ending. The winger’s new deal is set to make him the highest earner at the Emirates.

The club believe this is a fair reflection of him being one of the elite wingers playing in Europe. Saka is also seen as a talismanic figure for the Gunners, not just because of his performances, but given he is a homegrown player who has overcome challenges to be in this position.

Arsenal have now put Saka in a position to win trophies with the club he’s been at since he was a boy, which will only further his ambitions and desire to stay. It is whilst playing in north London that he’s also become an integral figure for England.

Only last month he told Sky Sports: “I want to help win the biggest of trophies as well in my time at Arsenal. So that’s the next steps. We’ve had a lot of the group together for many years now, and we’ve been through a lot of ups and downs together, and now we just want to go the next step.”

But whilst Saka’s new deal appears to be nearing talks of extending Arteta’s time at the club have not yet begun. The Spaniard is into the final 18 months of his tenure but dialogue over staying is not yet on the agenda.

Arteta waited until he entered the final year of his previous contract before committing himself and staying at Arsenal. He may look to repeat that should he, as is expected, stay in north London. Arsenal want to keep him given the progress he’s overseen, but Arteta views contract talks as a distraction and the rest of this season may sway decisions.

The club are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League but gearing up for another battle with Manchester City chasing them. Their head coach is unlikely to want talk of his future dominating press conferences should the title fight go all the way.

One player in talks over an extension is Jurrien Timber. He has a deal util 2028 but the Dutchman has continued to impress and Arsenal want to reward his performances with an improved deal. Timber’s debut year was all but ended by an early injury, but he’s established himself as first-choice since.
