Ruben Amorim was appointed as Manchester United head coach in November last year and went about making a significant change to the Red Devils’ training programme
Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly made a significant alteration to the club’s training routine during his time at Old Trafford. The Portuguese took over the reins at Old Trafford in November last year, following the departure of Erik ten Hag.
In his inaugural season, Amorim led the Red Devils to the Europa League final and they currently sit seventh in the Premier League table as the November international break continues. United were forced to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in their last match before the international break.
This season, United are without European football and were knocked out from the Carabao Cup in the second round by Grimsby Town, meaning their campaign has largely been centred on a one-match-per-week schedule in the Premier League. That will change when the top flight returns after the international break, when United will have to contend with a busy schedule over December and the festive period.

Regardless, it seems that Amorim has already made a major impact on United’s preparations for matches over his first 12 months in charge. According to a report in The Sun, Amorim has made some key changes at Carrington since his arrival last year.
The report suggests that Amorim has made training sessions ‘less intense’ as matchday approaches. This adjustment was reportedly made in response to some players struggling with the high-intensity training under Ten Hag’s regime.
United have had a relatively small injury list this season, with Lisandro Martinez – who suffered a knee injury back in February – being the only long-term casualty. On 24th November, United will return to Premier League action after the international break, hosting Everton at Old Trafford.
This will be followed by three matches in the space of just over a week with away trips to Crystal Palace and Wolves, combined with a home clash against West Ham in early December. Amorim and Co. will be hoping that the busy schedule over the next few weeks will give United an opportunity to earn more points and climb the Premier League table in their quest for Champions League qualification.
After the draw against Spurs, Amorim said: “We have a lot of problems. We are just in the beginning. I know that sometimes the results show to people that we are improving, but we have a lot to do.
“You can divide the game in the final 10 minutes, also when we have to take out Harry Maguire and Casemiro at the same time, then suffer two goals, then losing [Sesko], even before the second goal with a big opportunity.
“To play with 10 men, but then to overcome everything and to manage to score, is a good thing, but if you look at the rest of the game, we were comfortable. I think we should do better, be more aggressive, feeling the environment in the stadium.
“The three points were there, the space was there, and I think we felt too comfortable during the game, and we need to expect that in one play anything can happen and change the mood of the stadium, and today was that. We controlled the game well, but we need to do better, because the game was there for the taking.”
