Everyone at Manchester United is sending all their love to the family of a father of two who suffered ‘critical and life-changing’ injuries after being hit by a car
Mason Mount has rallied behind the family of a huge Manchester United fan who is battling for his life after being hit by a car in Bolton. Mount sent a video message to Lewis Rimmer’s wife, Sarah, and their two daughters, Amelia and Maddison, following.
An incident that saw him struck by a Range Rover resulted in ‘life-changing’ injuries. He remains ‘critically ill’ in hospital after being placed in an induced coma, his close friend Andy Tonge has told the Manchester Evening News.
Tonge described the message as a ‘lovely’ gesture for the family. The Bolton News quoted him saying: “They’re big Manchester United supporters, so this was lovely to receive, what a guy.”

Mount shared his condolences and expressed sadness upon hearing what Rimmer’s been through. He also conveyed that “everyone at Manchester United is thinking of them and sending all their love.”
A fundraising campaign set up by friends to support the family has already amassed over £100,000 in donations. Tonge told the MEN: “The incident seems to have really struck a chord with people.”
“It happened during half term, and it’s shocked so many because it could so easily have been a child who might not have been as strong as Lewis is proving to be. Many feel that Lewis’ strength and fight over the last few weeks is nothing short of remarkable.
“The fact that it took place at a local supermarket, used by so many of us, has created an even stronger sense of, ‘This could have happened to any one of us.'”.
Tonge explained: “Lewis, unfortunately, is still critically ill and remains in an induced coma, three weeks on. Sarah and the family have been by his side every single day, and the fundraiser has genuinely lifted them.
“Knowing that so many people care and want to support them has made a real difference. When the time comes to make necessary changes to their home and daily life, they’ll be able to focus on Lewis without the added pressure of financial worries.”
He added: “So many people have donated, offered direct support to the family, or sent positive thoughts and energy to Lewis.”
Tonge added: “As a group of friends, we’re pulling together to support them, and we all think it’s just incredible. Personally, it makes me proud to come from the northwest.
“This is our community at its very best, rallying around an ordinary bloke and his beautiful family. It’s tough to put into words and convey that gratitude.”
