Bournemouth face the prospect of losing Antoine Semenyo in January when his release clause becomes active – and manager Andoni Iraola has discussed talk of the winger leaving
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola insists he is not worried about the possible departure of Antoine Semenyo – despite the winger’s £65million release clause becoming public knowledge.
The Ghanaian winger has been one of the Premier League’s top performers this term and has shone for the Cherries. He remained at the Vitality Stadium in the summer despite a number of the club’s top performers heading for pastures new, but had a release clause inserted into his latest contract.
Semenyo has scored six times in the Premier League – a figure that is only topped by two players. The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been linked with possible moves in the New Year.
Iraola has helped Bournemouth scale new heights, keeping up those performances despite a player exodus in the summer, and he’s not concerning himself with possible exits in January.
The Spanish boss said: “We are in November. Antoine is our player, he will continue being our player. In January, you can ask me about the market in January, but right now I’m not worried about the next markets.

“It’s something that especially you know that I hate to talk about in August, January, the moments when the market is open, but it is not one of those moments. It’s November. I’m more worried about the situation of the players to play tomorrow, the short-term, the things that really matter and in January, we will talk about whatever happens, the players we need. But it is not something that I’m worried about today.”
Semenyo’s possible exit would be a loss given his consistent displays. He showcased his quality on the opening night of the season when he scored twice at Liverpool, one of his strikes coming after he ran nearly the length of the pitch.
The Bournemouth ace claimed recently that he’s attempting to keep the noise about his future at bay. He said: “I don’t think about it too much. I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I’m not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.”
Liverpool have been tipped to see Semenyo as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who may well depart when his two-year deal ends. Bournemouth managed to land more than £200m in transfer sales in the summer, some of which they did re-invest.
