Nottingham Forest had not won an away game in the Premier League this season before they came to Anfield and stunned Liverpool with a deserved 3-0 success on Saturday

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White admitted his side “felt comfortable” during their stunning 3-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday. Forest picked up their first away win of the Premier League season while worsening the crisis at Anfield.

Liverpool have now lost six of their last seven games in the Premier League and their title defence appears all but over after just 12 games. Arne Slot’s side are now 11th in the table with 18 points after Sean Dyche’s side produced their best performance of the season.

Murillo put them in front early on after VAR determined that Dan Ndoye was not interfering with play from an offside position. Igor Jesus had a goal ruled out for a handball as Forest went into the break 1-0 up, but Nicolo Savona doubled their lead shortly after half-time.

Slot brought Hugo Ekitike on for Ibrahima Konate as he rolled the dice, but the gamble did not pay off. Gibbs-White made the points safe with a third Forest goal – and the playmaker’s post-match words spoke volumes about the depth of Liverpool’s problems.

“I didn’t expect it but it’s happened,” he told Premier League Productions. “I’m out there trying to help the team as much as possible. I thought the boys were brilliant today. Delighted we got the three points but I hope we’re out of the relegation zone.

“We felt comfortable even though we didn’t have the ball. We were defensively secure and that’s credit to the boys and the manager. Delighted to get another goal but we got a clean sheet and three points at Anfield, which is an incredible thing.

“They’re still a great team with incredible individuals. When you’re in a tough patch, we know it’s hard to get out of it. We knew we’d have a chance and it was about us being solid and taking our chance when we got it.

“When Sean Dyche came in, he made it clear the season starts now. He’s been putting us to work, but we needed it to compete at the highest level. We’ve been running, running, running. Any game in the Premier League is difficult. We have to take it game by game.”

Forest moved out of the relegation zone with the best result of their campaign and captain Ryan Yates added to Sky Sports: “The lads were incredible. We thoroughly deserved the win and the dressing room is quite lively. We’re enjoying it.”

Asked about Liverpool, he said: “They’re still a team full of a lot of quality and we knew that. When you come to Anfield, you have to weather the storm. We scored, knocked their confidence and never let them recover.”
