Leeds United and Aston Villa suffer injury blows amid Lucas Paqueta response – Premier League news – The Mirror

It’s a busy midweek of action at the top and bottom of the Premier League – here’s all the latest news from around the league

15:02, 02 Dec 2025Updated 15:02, 02 Dec 2025

All of the latest news ahead of Premier League matchweek 14

  • Forest refuse to panic: Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has dismissed the idea that their trip to Wolves is a relegation “six-pointer,” insisting that his team must treat every fixture with equal importance. His focus remains on ensuring the squad delivers a consistently high level of performance to maintain their survival push.
  • Wolves’ struggles continue: Bottom club Wolves have only two points from 13 games, and new boss Rob Edwards has suffered defeat in both matches since replacing Vitor Pereira. Despite their poor form, Dyche expects a stern test at Molineux as the new manager tries to get a reaction from his players.
  • Brighton injury doubt: Brighton will make a late decision on the fitness of Georginio Rutter for their clash with Aston Villa after he took a blow to the head against Forest. Manager Fabian Hurzeler confirmed it was not a concussion, but the midfielder must strictly follow medical protocols before being cleared to play.
  • Squad rotation for the Seagulls: Hurzeler has suggested he may rotate his starting line-up to cope with the packed fixture list and maintain freshness within the squad. He emphasised that players who have been training well deserve their chance to step in and build connections on the pitch.
  • West Ham back Paqueta: West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to move on from Lucas Paqueta’s red card for dissent against Liverpool, confirming the midfielder has apologised to the team. Although Paqueta is suspended for the match against Manchester United, Nuno stressed that the club is protecting him and helping him overcome his current frustrations.
  • Villa lose Barkley: Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley has been ruled out for up to three months after sustaining a severe knee injury during his cameo against Wolves. This is a major setback for Unai Emery, who noted that Barkley was just hitting peak form, while defender Tyrone Mings also remains out for another four weeks.
  • Leeds dealt injury blow: Leeds United winger Daniel James is facing at least eight weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring tendon injury that may require surgery. Manager Daniel Farke admitted the player was “heartbroken” by the news, which leaves the team short of pace ahead of a difficult run of games.
  • Farke calls for bravery: With pressure mounting after a poor start, Farke has urged his Leeds side to play aggressive, brave football against title-chasing Chelsea at Elland Road. He acknowledges the quality of the opposition but insists his team must “go for it” rather than playing fearfully against one of the world’s best sides.
