Out-on-loan Manchester United star Marcus Rashford came off the bench to help Barcelona secure a 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Tuesday night.

Marcus Rashford has delivered a fresh message after the Manchester United loanee once again helped Barcelona claim a vital win in La Liga. Tuesday night saw Rashford and his team-mates earn a 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou to move further clear at the top of the Spanish top-flight standings.

Despite being named on the bench, Rashford was brought into the contest by Barcelona boss Hansi Flick in the 67th minute, replacing Robert Lewandowski with the scoreline at 2-1. Former Manchester City star Ferran Torres then netted a third for Barca to seal the victory.

Even though Rashford didn’t make the starting XI, the 68-cap England international was thrilled to contribute to Barcelona’s victory, securing three more points in their La Liga campaign.

“Important win and great team performance,” Rashford posted on Instagram.

This latest appearance marks Rashford’s 19th game this season across all competitions, including 14 in La Liga. His contribution has helped the Catalan giants extend their lead at the top of the table to four points, ahead of their fiercest rivals Real Madrid.

Rashford’s post comes just before the January transfer window opens, while speculation about the future of the United loanee is set to intensify as the New Year approaches.

United agreed to Rashford’s departure during the summer transfer window, following the player’s expressed wish to leave Old Trafford ahead of the new Premier League season.

Rashford may have only temporarily left United this summer, but Barcelona have the option to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season for a fee of €30million (£26million).

There was a chance for Rashford to permanently join Aston Villa this summer – after his loan stint in the latter half of the previous season. However, Villa chose not to exercise their £40million option – in turn resulting in Rashford’s move to Barcelona.

Since making the switch to Spain, the England star has netted six goals and provided nine assists for Barcelona, leaving the La Liga giants with a crucial decision to make regarding his future in the coming weeks and months.

Rashford will next have chance to increase his goals and assist tally when Barcelona take on Real Betis in La Liga this weekend. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will also be in action against Athletic Club, on Wednesday night, for what effectively serves as a game-in-hand.
