Arne Slot continues to face questions on Mohamed Salah’s status within the club, after the Egyptian international made stunning comments against Liverpool and his manager

Arne Slot has refused to say whether Mohamed Salah would feature in Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Brighton on Saturday, after the Egyptian star hinted it could be his final game for the club. Salah seemingly stunned the Liverpool boss with the comments he made after the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

He accused the club of “throwing him under the bus” and revealed how his relationship with Slot had deteriorated. The 33-year-old winger also explained how he had told his family to come to the Brighton game as he didn’t know what would happen afterwards.

Salah will “say goodbye” to the Liverpool fans at Anfield as he leaves for AFCON next week.

Speaking to Prime Video, Slot was asked whether Salah would feature against the Seagulls this weekend. The Dutchman let out a telling small laugh, before saying: “We are here for [the] Inter Milan game.

And, I think you can understand that the last two days were already a lot. A lot of things going on after conceding in the last minute against Leeds. Not for the first time this season, then what happened afterwards.

“So I think you can understand that my full focus is now on Inter Milan, and we will see what the future is.”

When questioned on his overall feelings regarding Salah’s comments, Slot responded: “No, far from ideal. Not good for anyone. First of all, not for the club, not for the team, not for him as well. So, far from ideal.

“But we reacted in the way we did not to take him here [Italy.] And, that tells you, what we felt about his comments.”

Salah’s comments were a result of the winger being benched for Liverpool’s last three fixtures. Across these three games, the 33-year-old only played 45 minutes against Sunderland, and he didn’t feature at all against West Ham or Leeds.

Amongst his frustration, Salah called out Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher. He felt the former Liverpool defender was going to “go for him again” following his comments. On Monday, Carragher got his chance to reply.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher blasted: “I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst, I don’t think it was.”

The Liverpool legend added: “He’s chosen this weekend to do this now and he’s waited, I think, for a bad result for Liverpool. You can see the last-minute goal, Liverpool supporters, the manager, everyone involved in the club feels like they’re in the gutter at the moment and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try and get him sacked.”

Salah had agreed to sign a new two-year contract last season as his original deal was set to expire in the summer. Now, similar to Alexander Isak’s situation with Newcastle, he has accused Liverpool of “broken promises” that were made ahead of the new campaign.

Tonight, Salah will be watching his team face Inter Milan in the Champions League from home. Meanwhile, whether he will play against Brighton on Saturday – in what could be his final game for Liverpool – remains unclear.
