Manchester City striker Erling Haaland shared a funny moment with TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods after Pep Guardiola’s side beat Real Madrid in the Champions League

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland joked that Laura Woods doesn’t like him because she’s an Arsenal fan after his goal helped Pep Guardiola’s side beat Real Madrid and continue their impressive run of form. City were beaten by Bayer Leverkusen last time out in the Champions League, but the win over Xabi Alonso’s side took them step closer to qualifying in the top eight as part of the league phase of the competition.

Premier League rivals Arsenal have all but ensured their place in the top eight, barring an extreme collapse in their final two European games, with Mikel Arteta’s side currently boasting a 100 per cent win record in the Champions League. City are just five points behind the Gunners and are among the favourites to win the competition.

Guardiola’s men have been in fine form in the Premier League too and have taken advantage of Arsenal’s recent domestic blip, winning four of their last five games to move to within two points of the Gunners. City have emerged as the most likely title challengers this season, with Liverpool enduring a torrid time under Arne Slot, despite romping to the title last term.

Woods, who is a huge Arsenal fan, asked Haaland whether he felt City had the experience to challenge her side for the title. She said: “Erling we’ve got to let you go, but just before we do, fourth season now at Manchester City. Attention now is going to turn back to the Premier League.

“What sort of mood do you think your club is in at the moment and the experience you’ve had with this team to kick on and see out the rest of the season, are you feeling like you’re in a great position to chase down Arsenal?”

TNT Sports pundits Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman pointed out that Woods’ allegiances, to which Haaland said: “She probably doesn’t like me then.” He said: “I don’t like to speak too much about this because I feel like we should focus on ourselves.

“Which City has been so good at for the last ten years, just focus on ourselves. Don’t think about others.

“Just try to win the next game and that’s what we need to do. Now we need to focus on – who is it – [Crystal] Palace on Sunday?

“It’s a really tough game and it’s not easy. We have to take it game by game. Now it’s a massive win so it’s about enjoying this for a few hours.

“Tomorrow you need to recover as good as you can because games are coming, look at the schedule. It’s incredible and it’s about staying fit.

“This is the most important, to stay fit, take it game by game and hopefully win on Sunday.” City are indeed back in action on Sunday when they take on Palace at Selhurst Park, while Arsenal host Wolves in the 8pm kick-off the night before.
