Calling the tension surrounding Liverpool worrisome is quite the understatement. Already a few days removed from Mohamed Salah’s rant following the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Leeds United where the Egyptian claimed the club are scapegoating him for their troubles, there doesn’t seem to be a fruitful conclusion to the saga as of this time.

Jamie Carragher’s eight-minute Monday Night Football soliloquy where he slammed the Reds forward for being selfish has only added to the toxic feeling surrounding the reigning Premier League champions.

In what could stunningly be the final month of Salah’s glittering career on Merseyside, Mirror Football takes a look into the forward’s team-mate slamming Carragher while suggestions were made that there could be hidden unrest between Salah and Liverpool.

Team-mate response

Salah wasn’t short of backers following Carragher’s monologue with his former Egypt team-mate and ex-Hull City and Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady branding the Sky Sports pundit a “disgrace”.

The 38-year-old’s fierce defence of his compatriot was posted on X and has been seen over 340,000 times. He wrote: “Right Jamie you’re a disgrace, Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances. He didn’t “fail” at Chelsea — he was never given the chance.

“He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then came to Liverpool and became: A Premier League legend Egypt’s greatest ever player. One of the most consistent forwards of his generation Salah has carried Egypt for Years And getting Egypt qualified for World Cup twice after so long, Salah earned everything.

“No wonder you got blanked by C. Ronaldo. No wonder Messi called you out. No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in top 1,000 defender In PL.”

‘Behind closed doors’ stance

With Salah remaining at home in Liverpool while his team-mates travelled to Italy for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan, the Egyptian great took to social media following the whirlwind weekend that put his Anfield future into doubt.

The 33-year-old posted a photo of himself working out alone in the gym of the AXA Training Centre on Monday morning. With no caption written alongside the Instagram post, it was former Reds team-mate and close friend Dejan Lovren who took to the comments section to back his former colleague, hinting something may have happened ‘behind doors.

The Croatian defender wrote: “The only way to deal with injustice is to fight with all our strength.” Lovren’s comment didn’t go down too well with other users with one replying with: “What injustice? Being dropped for three games so the team can work without him so we are ready for when he goes AFCON?

“No justice is needed, Chiesa doesn’t act like this? He played 142 minutes alone.” Lovren’s brief response suggested there could be inner turmoil between Salah and Liverpool by writing: “You have no clue what’s going on behind doors. Stay in your territory with your keyboard and support the wrong side.”
