Manchester United have announced their first quarter financial results, with the Premier League club posting an operating profit of £13.3m compared to a £6.9m loss last year following cost reductions

Manchester United have unveiled their first quarter financial results, showing an operating profit of £13.3m, a significant improvement from the £6.9m loss recorded in the same period last year, thanks to reduced costs.

Following his acquisition of a minority stake at Old Trafford in 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe initiated a review of club operations, leading to widespread redundancies across various departments to cut costs.

United disclosed their most recent financial figures on Thursday, verifying that the club operated at a profit for the first financial quarter. United’s CEO, Omar Berrada, responded: “These robust financial results reflect the resilience of Manchester United as we make strong progress in our transformation of the club.

“The difficult decisions we have made in the past year have resulted in a sustainably lower cost base and a more streamlined, effective organisation equipped to drive the club towards improved sporting and commercial performance over the long-term,” he said.

“That has helped us to invest in our men’s and women’s teams, sitting in sixth and third places in the Premier League and women’s Super League respectively.”

However, revenues have seen a slight dip of 2 per cent, due to the lack of European broadcast revenues, and two fewer home games in the quarter compared with the previous year.

Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, United are on track to achieve their season’s goal of returning to Europe. Qualifying for the Champions League would bring in additional revenue.

The club are confident that the first quarter figures indicate progress in enhancing their financial standing, but insiders admit that further diligence and discipline are necessary for long-term sustainability.
