- Event details: The prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony is scheduled to take place in Salford on December 18. The main award of the evening is the Sports Personality of the Year, which will be decided during the televised ceremony.
- Presentation and viewer participation: The main show will be hosted by a trio of presenters: Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott, who will guide the UK audience through the sporting highlights of the past year. Fans across the UK will have the critical role of determining the winner by voting live during the broadcast, which is being shown on BBC One and the iPlayer from 7pm to 9pm, via the BBC Sport website.
- New high-stakes voting format: In a dramatic change for the show, the field of contenders will first be significantly narrowed down to a final top three while the program is live on air. This new two-stage process makes the 2025 event a high-stakes and huge spectacle before the ultimate winner is finally crowned.
- Chloe Kelly & Hannah Hampton: These England teammates are both shortlisted after playing pivotal roles in the Lionesses’ dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain in the Euro 2025 final. Kelly clinched the win by scoring the decisive spot-kick, while Hampton was instrumental in the shootout by making two crucial saves.

- Luke Littler: Still only 18, Littler began the year by becoming the youngest world champion in darts history. He continued his dominance by becoming only the fifth player ever to complete the coveted PDC Triple Crown, securing the World Championship, Premier League, and Matchplay titles to rise to the number one world ranking.
- Rory McIlroy: The 36-year-old golfer enjoyed two major victories during 2025, starting with the Masters where he completed a career grand slam of all four majors. He later contributed three and a half crucial points to Europe’s dramatic Ryder Cup victory against the USA team.
- Ellie Kildunne: Kildunne was a pivotal player in England’s success at the Women’s Rugby World Cup this summer, scoring a total of five tries across the tournament. She notably scored two tries in the semi-final against France and added another in the final against Canada, building on her earlier Six Nations glory.
- Young Sports Personality of the Year: The shortlist for this award includes three rising stars: Lioness Michelle Agyemang, Littler, and cricket sensation Davina Perrin. The winner of this category, which is decided by a panel, will be revealed live during the main BBC Sports Personality of the Year show.
