Marcus Rashford’s loan from Manchester United to Barcelona expires at the end of this season, and the England international faces an uncertain future this summer

Hansi Flick reportedly wants Barcelona to prioritise signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on a permanent basis. Reports suggest La Liga’s leaders are already working on a deal to extend the England international’s stay at Camp Nou beyond his current loan.

The 28-year-old forward joined the Spanish heavyweights on a season-long spell during this summer’s transfer window. That move materialised after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, with limited game time at United leading to a stint at Aston Villa.

There are now suggestions from other sources that financially troubled Barcelona could make Rashford’s move permanent for a fee in the region of £26million. On Christmas Day, reporter Matteo Moretto claimed that Hansi Flick has not only made Rashford a primary target for the Catalan club, but that they are also actively working on making his deal permanent.

Rashford has been under the spotlight since his move to La Liga, following a dip in form at Old Trafford, despite having established himself as a key player for United. Since joining Barcelona, Rashford has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in his first 24 appearances, with four of those goals coming in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old recently expressed his ambition to win trophies with Barcelona and his desire to continue his career in Catalonia. He told SPORT in an interview: “I’m adapting very well to the club and the city.

“From the moment I arrived, I felt that everyone welcomed me very well. For me, the reason I’m here is to help the team win trophies.

“Last season was fantastic, but in life, everything happens very quickly, things change, and the goal is to repeat the successes. I’m totally focused on this.

“With the staff and the teammates, everything is fantastic, I can’t complain. Of course, what I want is to stay at Barca. It’s an end goal, but it’s not the reason why I’m training hard and giving it my best.

“The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles.”

Rashford continued: “There is pressure here, but it is not a negative pressure. It’s the one you want as a player, the one I want and have always wanted as a footballer.

“I can’t be in a place where important objectives are not demanded of you. For me, it is more difficult to be motivated and give my best at a club where the demand is not maximum.

“I’m in the perfect place and environment to continue my journey as a football player, so I just try to do my best every day and help the team win. We’ll see what happens next summer.”
