Scott McTominay has been linked with a return to the Premier League after a stunning start to life in Italy with Napoli, but the midfielder has previously spoken of his love for the Serie A side
Scott McTominay is reportedly considering a return to the Premier League, although Manchester United are not necessarily on his radar.
The Scotland international has seen a resurgence in his career since leaving United in 2024, netting 12 goals and clinching the Serie A title in his debut season. The 29-year-old has been a key player for both club and country, often scoring crucial last-minute goals.
However, according to The Sun, this season has seen some challenges for Napoli. An insider revealed: “Scott loves elements of Italian life and had a wonderful first season.
“But the passion of the fans can be a blessing, but also make things difficult. He is treated as a god over there, but it means he finds it difficult to do simple things when he’s not training. The attention can be suffocating.”
In light of this, speculation has been rife linking McTominay with various clubs, including Barcelona, Tottenham and Newcastle. The midfielder is reportedly open to a return to England and might even consider a reunion with United if the circumstances align.

However, McTominay himself seems to have quashed rumours of a United comeback, expressing his contentment with life in Italy and his current club. Speaking to Sky Sports Italia in October, the former United star stated: “I’m really happy in Naples.”
Chatting to the BBC last summer about his new Italian adventure, McTominay enthused: “The people in Naples are incredible, they’re so passionate and everywhere you go there are people who say ‘Forza Napoli’ and they want to speak to you and have a conversation and that inspires you every time you go on the pitch because they care.
“It’s different, a totally different way of life over there – the way you eat, the way you live and all that. It gives you more mental strength. I’ve always lived very close to my mum, so I could go whenever I wanted.

“Now, living 1,500 miles away, I can’t just pop home to see my mum, my family, my sister and my kids so it’s different, but in life you sometimes have to step out of your comfort zone and I’ve always prided myself on that.
“I would never want to be in my comfort zone, and if I can go away anywhere and establish myself and do well, why not? Who’s to stop me doing that?”
These sentiments of stretching his boundaries might suggest that McTominay is open to testing himself in a foreign league, and with recent rumours linking him to Barcelona, he could potentially join former teammate Marcus Rashford in Spain.
