Manchester City are now seemingly in pole position to land Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth – and the Ghana star wants a £65million January transfer wrapped up quickly
Antoine Semenyo is said to want a potential transfer to Manchester City wrapped up before January 1 – but Bournemouth would like their star man to hang around for some big games next month.
It’s been well documented that Semenyo, 25, has a £65million release clause in his contract which, if triggered by January 10, would enable him to leave the Cherries. His red-hot form this season means a number of clubs have been sniffing around the Ghana star in recent weeks including City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Semenyo’s preference is understood to be a switch to The Etihad and City are in pole position to land him once the transfer window reopens, with the player seemingly wanting things sorted quickly.

BBC Sport claim that Semenyo would like the formalities of a possible transfer wrapped up as soon as possible so that he is essentially a Manchester City player when the transfer window opens on January 1.
Bournemouth, though, would like to keep him until January 10 – meaning Semenyo would, in theory, be available for crunch games against Arsenal and Tottenham before moving north to Manchester.
With Semenyo one of the Premier League’s best performing attackers this term, that means the likes of Arsenal and Spurs will be keeping a keen eye on developments to see if they will come up against him before he departs the south coast.
In the wake of reports claiming Semenyo favours a move to Manchester City, Pep Guardiola was asked about the chances of the Bournemouth star joining the former Premier League champions in the January transfer window after Saturday’s 2-1 win away at Nottingham Forest.
Guardiola, though, was giving little away, and coyly replied: “Next question”.
Semenyo netted his ninth Premier Leauge goal of the season in Bournemouth’s disappointing 4-1 defeat away at Brentford just hours later. His strike in west London means he is well on course to beat his best ever league goal tally (11) with over half the season still remaining.
