Former Liverpool manager Matt Beard died in September in tragic circumstances and details of what he left his family have now emerged in the high court

Former Liverpool women’s manager Matt Beard has left £150,000 for his family, following his death earlier this year. Beard tragically died of suicide, aged 47.

The late football coach is survived by his wife Debbie and three children, Scott, Harry & Ellie. Beard died without leaving a will and did not have any final wishes for his money, report the Sun.

The WSL-winning manager left an estate of £152,000, reduced to £136,000 after taxes and costs, and it is expected his family will inherit the money automatically under probate rules, the report claims. The documents were signed off by the High Court on December 14 and released on Monday 29.

Beard was found dead at his house in Deeside, Flintshire, on September 20. In the aftermath of his passing, a fundraiser to support his family raised more than £50,000.

He managed Liverpool’s women’s side twice and won the Women’s Super League title in 2013 and 2014. Beard made a return to the Reds in 2021 and found more success, winning promotion back to the WSL, before leaving the club in February.

In a eulogy at his memorial service in October, Matt’s brother Mark called him a “beautiful soul and a one-in-a-million personality”.

Following his death, Liverpool said: “The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Matt’s family and friends at this devastating time. Matt was not only an extremely committed and successful manager, he was also a person of real integrity and warmth, who will always be remembered with genuine fondness by everyone he worked with at the club.”

Ex-England star Fara Williams played for Liverpool under Beard, and spoke warmly of his impact. She said: “He was somebody that saw potential in me that maybe I didn’t see myself.

“When I had difficult periods outside football he was there. He gave a lot of love, he gave a lot of attention to people.

“He gave opportunities when people thought they were down and out. He was the guy that would find a space for them.”

The Women’s Super League posted a tribute from their social media account which read: “Everyone at WSL Football extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones of Matt Beard following news of his passing. Matt played an instrumental role in the growth of women’s football and will be missed by everyone associated with the game. Rest in peace, Matt.”

Beard managed over 350 games and he was named FA WSL Manager of the Season in 2013 and in 2024. In 2024, he guided Liverpool to a fourth-place finish.
