Chelsea drop telling Enzo Maresca future hint amid mounting sack pressure

Enzo Maresca is currently under pressure at Chelsea after their dismal dip in form in the Premier League, and the Blues appear to have dropped a hint over his future on social media.

Chelsea took to social media to wrap up 2025 on Wednesday evening, but Enzo Maresca didn’t get as much as a mention by the club. It appears as though the writing is on the wall for the Italian head coach, who had everyone at the club elated this summer by guiding the Blues to the Club World Cup.

With form dipping in the Premier League, as of late, as well as eye-catching comments made to the media earlier this month, Maresca is currently facing a wealth of pressure to keep his job. For context, Chelsea have taken just one win in their last seven outings in the English top-flight, languishing in fifth in the standings and 15 points shy of league leaders, Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Italian head coach seemingly lambasted a lack of support he received by the club in the wake of December’s 3-1 loss to Leeds United, ranting in a fiery press conference – in which, he claimed he had endured the “worst 48 hours” of his tenure.

He said at the time: “Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us. So I’m very happy for Malo (Gusto) – in that moment the effort from Malo and from the rest show that they are all there and they want to help this club.”

He added: “Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me and the team,” before he was asked on clarification as to what he meant. He then added: “In general. In general.”

With Chelsea looking to celebrate their efforts in 2025 so far, the club’s social media team uploaded a brief recap rapped by Still Shadey, with video footage flicking to the likes of midfielders Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. One man who wasn’t mentioned throughout the verse, however, was Maresca.

As a result, a number of fans took to the comments section to urge the club not to part ways with their manager – who has been at the reins since the summer of 2024. One person wrote: “They left out the mastermind behind it all in the wrap man. It’s over for Maresca.”

A second added: “Was the manager not a big part of 2025?” while a third said: “You left out Maresca.” A fourth then explained: “If it wasn’t for Maresca we wouldn’t be called world champions. We went band-for-band with the European champions and destroyed them, bur hearing the rumours of sacking him now is absolutely shocking and embarrassing.”

Elsewhere, another user said: “What a joke that you’re posting this while thinking about sacking the guy who made our 2025 as good as it was, despite the board’s efforts to sabotage us at every step,” while a sixth urged: “Please tell the owners not to sack Maresca.”

However, just a day earlier in the wake of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, a number of users were calling for a new head coach. One said: “Chelsea are the most confused team in world football, you wouldn’t believe they beat Barcelona 3-0 a couple months ago, I don’t see a vision with Maresca in game tactics anymore,” while another added: “Maresca needs to be fired. #MarescaOUT.”

Up next for Chelsea is a clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium come Sunday, January 4. However, the Blues will be without a key player on their travels, Caicedo.

The Ecuador star picked up his fifth yellow card of the season for a challenge on Adrien Truffert just four minutes into the game against Bournemouth, and will be forced to serve a one-game suspension as a result of the Premier League’s disciplinary rules.

Elsewhere in January, Chelsea take on Fulham at Craven Cottage, travel to the Valley to take on Charlton in the FA Cup, play host to Arsenal in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and face Brentford at Stamford Bridge. Champions League matches against Pafos and Napoli are also to come, as well as Premier League meetings with Crystal Palace and West Ham.
