Wall Street opens higher on first trading day of 2026

[WASHINGTON] Wall Street’s main indexes opened higher on the first trading day of 2026, as risk sentiment improved after multiple sessions in the final days of a roller-coaster 2025 ended in the red.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 42.7 points, or 0.09 per cent, at the open to 48,105.98.

The S&P 500 rose 32.6 points, or 0.48 per cent, at the open to 6,878.11​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 239.5 points, or 1.03 per cent, to 23,481.493 at the opening bell. REUTERS
