Kylian Mbappe has sent a message to Xabi Alonso after Real Madrid confirmed they had parted ways with their now former manager after just eight months in the job

Kylian Mbappe has issued an emotional message offering his appreciation to Xabi Alonso after his departure from Real Madrid was confirmed. Madrid announced on Monday that Alonso had left the club just months after being appointed by the La Liga giants last summer.

It was confirmed by Real that the club and Alonso had agreed to part ways by “mutual agreement”, with the decision coming a day after their defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona. Madrid suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals, with Frenkie De Jong scoring the winning goal in stoppage, in what proved to be Alonso’s final match in charge of the club.

It has also been confirmed by Madrid that Alvaro Arbeloa is the club’s new manager following Alonso’s exit. Soon after Alonso’s exit was announced, Mbappe took to Instagram to post a message on his story to his 129 million followers to send a message of appreciation to Alonso, which also included a photo of himself alongside his now former manager.

“It’s been short but it was a pleasure to play for you and learn from you,” Mbappe wrote. “Thank you for giving me the confidence since day one.

“I will remember you as a manager who had clear ideas and knows many things about football. Best of luck for your next chapter.”

Alonso’s future as Madrid manager had been the subject of speculation for several weeks, having only been appointed by the La Liga giants last summer before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup. The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder leaves Madrid with the club in second place in the La Liga table and four points behind leaders Barcelona.

“Real Madrid C. F. wishes to announce that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to bring his time as first team coach to an end,” Madrid’s statement read.

“Xabi Alonso will always carry the affection and admiration of all Madridistas because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.

“We would like to thank Xabi Alonso and all his coaching staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this time, and wish them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.”

Madrid’s next match will see them take on Albacete on Wednesday night in the Copa del Rey round of 16, with their return to La Liga action coming on Saturday against Levante.
